ABOUT ME

I am a geoscientist and assistant professor at East Carolina University in the Department of Earth, Environment & Planning. I investigate hydrological and geological processes in coastal environments with a particular interest in soil salinization and saltwater intrusion. My early research advanced the understanding of coastal peatland collapse processes and how salinization impacts peatland carbon dynamics and physical soil properties. My current research extends these efforts by investigating 1) soil salinization in coastal working lands, 2) freshwater resources on barrier islands, and 3) coastal change over time. This research empowers undergraduate and graduate researchers to help tackle intricate coastal issues while preparing students for impactful careers in the geosciences.
